What Is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual direction helps another to notice and discern where and how they are encountering God in their unique daily life and prayer experiences.
Unlike therapy or coaching it is something both simpler and more profound — a sacred conversation between you, your director, and the Holy Spirit.
The Spiritual Director is attentive to the presence of the Holy Spirit as it is revealed in your words, your questions, your silences, and your longings. With you, the directee, they create space to explore the depths of your relationship with God — including the parts that feel intimate, confusing, distant, or alive.
Using prayer, silence, poetry, lament, imagery, scripture, and conversation, we work toward becoming ever more aware of God’s presence in all things — so that you can more readily discern the movements of the Spirit in your own life.
Who Is Spiritual Direction For?
Spiritual direction is for anyone who senses that there is more – more to explore and be discovered about how and where God is present to them through their unique life experiences.
What To Expect
Each session is approximately 60 mins long, but unhurried and focused entirely on you and your relationship with God. There is no agenda to complete, no problem to solve, no performance required. You are invited simply to bring what is true — your questions, your longings, your struggles, your gratitude — and to listen together for where God may be moving in it all.
Donna Erdman joined the staff of Christ the King Parish in 2017 to coordinate visits in the ministry to the sick and homebound of the parish. She later established and facilitated the Seasons of Hope bereavement support group and also formed the parish’s Mental Health Ministry. To further support her work in the parish, Donna has studied Pastoral Ministry at Loyola University, earned a certificate as a Grief Educator, and a Graduate Certificate in Catholic Theology.
Trained in Ignatian Spiritual Direction, Donna is certified through the Spiritual Direction Internship Initiative (SDII).
“My desire is to find God in all things; the Mass, daily prayer, contemplation, music, nature, and connecting with others. I enjoy reading the Mystics, who teach me to notice the sacredness and grace in all of God’s creation and in the experiences of every day life big or small. It is my desire to accompany others who are discerning how God is present to them through their own unique life experiences. I welcome people wherever they are on the journey: those in established faith, those questioning, those returning, and those who feel drawn to something they cannot yet name.”
