The Jericho Group

A Men’s Ministry at Christ the King Parish

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”  Mt 18:20

The premise for this group is based on a bible passage from Luke where Jesus walked to Jericho where there was a man named Zacchaeus.  He thought of himself as a good guy but also recognized he wasn’t perfect.  He simply wanted to know Jesus a little better.  He wanted to see Him a little better.  He made an effort and climbed a sycamore tree.  As Jesus walked by, He saw Zacchaeus.  He told him to get out of the tree and that He would come stay with him.  Zacchaeus made an extraordinary effort just to see Jesus and that experience with Jesus changed Zacchaeus’ life!

The Jericho Group allows men to deepen their faith and further their relationships with Jesus Christ, while discerning the greater purpose in their lives in the context of other men of the community.  Typically, men do not take the opportunity to pursue, discern and discuss these types of issues.  By the purest definition of a bible study group, we are not.  While we do have meeting discussions based on readings of books of the Bible, we also read and reflect on contemporary books that touch on various aspects of Catholic faith.

The group currently consists of men with various backgrounds who are now at different points in their faith journey.  Some have children still at home and others who are empty nesters.   We are also geographical diverse.  One of our members recently moved back to North Carolina and one currently lives in New Hampshire but both continue to have very close ties to the Christ The King community.  We all continue to grow in our faith due to the love, wisdom and true caring and companionship shared amongst the various members.
